Cost of living in London

Hi all!

With my friends from Press Association, we filmed this video in London by asking some people on the street to hear their ideas about the cost of living in London. Here is the piece. I hope you like it!

It’s agreed: “The cost of living in London is expensive.”

Living in urban areas such as cities almost always means a more expensive lifestyle than living in rural places. And in the case of London, it’s believed that the cost of living in the UK’s capital is much higher than all the other cities around the world. But, it still depends on how you prefer to live your life.

Accommodation is more of than not, one of the highest expenses for Londoners and something that people living here have to spare from their salary. Average rent for a room, in zone 2 for example, is around six hundred pounds. This amount, of course, can vary depending on where the house is located, how many bedrooms it has, and etc.

London has a well-established public transport system. Even for people travelling from outside the city, the structure is easy to understand. However, while some Londoners find it is cost-effective, others complain that the price is drastically increasing every year.

When it comes to food in London, you have a considerably wide range of choices. For example, street food here is very famous and is equally as cheap. However, resembling the situation of public transport, it’s still thought by some locals that salaries don’t match their living in London and hence limits what they’re able to eat.

We asked people on the streets of London what they think about the cost of living in this city. While some said you can manage how you live, for example, commuting with a bike, others had a very basic solution: “Just don’t go out.”

At the end, they agreed that London is very expensive to live in.
